About the Emulator

What is Winlator?

Winlator is an Android application (APK) that allows you to run Windows PC (x86_64) applications and games directly on your Android phone. By combining Wine and Box86/64 technologies, Winlator is a solution for Android devices to run Windows games or applications.

How Winlator Works

Winlator works by translating Windows API instructions into Linux instructions that Android can read through Wine. Winlator also requires Box86/64 to emulate the processor so PC games and apps can run smoothly on various Android smartphones.

Winlator Main Features

Wine Compatibility

Winlator utilizes Wine technology to launch Windows apps and games. It generates a virtual Windows environment on Android, translating Windows API calls into native Android commands.

Processor Emulation (Box86/64)

Using the power of Wine, Winlator executes x86/x64 instructions on Android by translating each command the moment it's needed, all in real-time.

Flexible Graphics Support

To handle graphics, Winlator includes powerful translators like DXVK, WineD3D, and Turnip+Zink, which convert DirectX rendering calls into native commands for Android's GPU.

Customizable Controls

Winlator includes various controller types, letting you customize the layout to perfectly match the way you play.

External Hardware Support

For a more comfortable and precise experience, Winlator also supports external hardware like keyboards, mice, and gamepads, connected either through USB or Bluetooth.

Open Source

Because Winlator is an open-source project, its complete source code is on GitHub. You're free to view, modify, fork it, or contribute by reporting bugs.

Device Specifications

For the best experience, we've prepared some minimum hardware recommendations. Following these suggestions will help ensure that Winlator runs smoothly on your device.

Processor

For lighter games like PES 2013, a chipset such as the Snapdragon 732G or Mediatek G99 is a good starting point. To tackle demanding titles like GTA V, you'll need the power of at least a Snapdragon 8s gen 3 or Mediatek Dimensity 9200.

RAM

You can get by with 6GB of RAM for lighter games like PES 2013. For demanding titles such as GTA V, however, 8GB of RAM should be considered the absolute minimum.

Storage

A light game like PES 2013 will only take up about 6GB of storage space. In contrast, a massive game like GTA V can demand a staggering 190GB of free space.

Operating system

Winlator works with older versions of Android, like Android 8.0 (Oreo), but we always recommend using the most recent version for the best performance.

Internet Connection

A fast and stable internet connection is essential for downloading the necessary applications, games, and any additional data files they may require.

GPU

A strong processor and GPU will significantly boost your graphics performance, particularly when it comes to playing demanding 3D games.

Frequently Asked Questions

The community has also helped make Winlator, but it was made by brunodev85, who is still working on it.

No, Winlator only works with DirectX 11 and lower because it uses the DXVK API layer. Winlator does add support for a graphics API called VKD3D in the latest version, v10+, which supports DirectX 12, but it may not work well in all games and is still being tested.

Popular Games on Winlator

GTA V

Open-world Action-adventure
★★★★★

GTA V is the most popular game around right now, and that holds in the Winlator community as much as on desktop. It follows three leads — Michael, a retired robber trying to stay quiet; Franklin, a young man looking for a way off the street; and Trevor, a criminal who cannot help causing trouble — as they plan an ambitious heist in Los Santos, which keeps the story varied across all three. Winlator can run it on Android, but it is demanding: aim for a mid-range device or better.

Resident Evil 4

Survival horror Action-adventure
★★★★★

Resident Evil 4 is one of the most played survival horror games on Winlator today. It follows Leon S. Kennedy, sent to rescue Ashley Graham, the US president's daughter, and takes him to a remote Spanish village whose residents are infected with the Las Plagas parasite. Leon faces the Los Illuminados cult and a long run of increasingly dangerous enemies. Winlator lets you play the PC version on your phone.

PES 2013

Sports Simulation
★★★★★

PES 2013 is widely played on Winlator precisely because it is small, which suits low-spec devices. It is a football game that runs smoothly and starts easily under Winlator without demanding much of the hardware.

Call Of Duty 1

FPS World War II
★★★★★

Call of Duty 1 is a Second World War shooter told across three fronts — the United States, Britain and the Soviet Union. It is popular on Winlator because it is small and light, which makes it a good fit if your Android device is on the low end.

PES 2017 Patch 2026

Sports Simulation
★★★★★

PES 2017 with the 2026 patch applied, which brings the squads and transfers up to date. It runs well on Winlator with a few configuration tweaks; PES 2017 is fairly light and does not need high-end hardware, though a mid-range device helps.

Need for Speed Most Wanted

Racing Open World
★★★★★

Need for Speed Most Wanted is the well-known racer built on aggressive, contact-heavy racing — you can run rivals off the road to take them out. This is the 2005 original at around 2 GB, so it is light enough to suit a low-spec device under Winlator.
