Bully - Scholarship Edition
Bully: Scholarship Edition takes Rockstar’s open-world formula to Bullworth Academy, where teenage trouble causes as much drama as any citywide crime spree. The 2008 PC version adds lessons and missions to the original Bully, placing Jimmy Hopkins between feuding school cliques and the adults who fail to control them. Its DirectX 9 technology makes the Windows build a plausible Winlator experiment on Android, although the aging PC port can have its own quirks. What keeps the game interesting is the scale: a school day, a bicycle ride, and a prank can all matter.
Jimmy’s First Year at Bullworth
Jimmy arrives at the academy after his mother leaves him there, and the school’s rough social order becomes clear almost immediately. Bullies, nerds, preppies, greasers, and jocks each control part of student life. Gary Smith initially appears helpful, then proves willing to turn those groups against Jimmy. Rather than a story about becoming a saint, Bully follows a student who learns how to survive a hostile place and eventually challenge the person manipulating it.
The school year changes with the seasons, giving Bullworth a sense of time that many open worlds lack. Halloween mischief feels different from the colder streets later in the story. The Scholarship Edition adds extra classes and missions, making the calendar busier than in the original release. Jimmy’s friendships with Petey and his uneasy dealings with clique leaders give the plot its warmth. Some jokes have aged awkwardly, but the central observation still works: the adults claim to be in charge while the students are left to negotiate power themselves.
Classes, Curfews, and Small Rebellions
Days have a rhythm. You can attend lessons, run errands, pursue story missions, or wander into Bullworth town, but class schedules and curfew keep nudging you back toward school life. Classes are short minigames that reward participation with useful abilities, such as better health or combat techniques. Fights use simple punches, grapples, and improvised items. Jimmy can also skate, cycle, or make trouble with harmless schoolyard tools, turning the campus into a playground of small decisions rather than a giant map full of icons.
Missions range from protecting a friend to embarrassing a rival clique. The best objectives use the location well: sneaking past prefects after hours is more tense than another ordinary fistfight. The Scholarship Edition’s added material provides variety, though some new lessons and errands feel like busywork. Camera control and PC input are not always graceful, especially when a chase turns sharply through a corridor. Bully works best when you follow the school’s pace instead of trying to rush straight through the main story.
A School With Personality
The pleasure is in noticing routines. Prefects patrol, students react to trouble, and a familiar route to class can suddenly become a chase. Bullworth feels larger than the map suggests because its neighborhoods have different social rules. On PC, the original port’s age shows in controls and occasional technical roughness, but the characters and music give it a distinct mood. Winlator on Android may benefit from the low graphics demands, yet this is still the Windows game and its input behavior can be awkward without a controller. A predictable frame rate helps more than forcing a high resolution on a small screen.
Bully: Scholarship Edition PC and Winlator Requirements
| Platform | Level | CPU / Chipset | GPU | RAM | OS / Environment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PC | Minimum | Pentium 4 3 GHz / Athlon 3000+ | GeForce 6800 or 7300 / Radeon X1300, Shader Model 3 | 1 GB | Windows XP era or compatible later Windows, DirectX 9.0c |
| PC | Suggested recommended | Core 2 Duo E6600 / Athlon 64 X2 5000+ | GeForce 8800 GT / Radeon HD 3870 | 2–4 GB | Windows 7/10 with legacy game compatibility |
| Android / Winlator | Suggested minimum | Snapdragon 730G / MediaTek Helio G95 | Adreno 618 / Mali-G76 | 6 GB | Android 10+ / compatible Winlator build |
| Android / Winlator | Suggested recommended | Snapdragon 870 / MediaTek Dimensity 8100 | Adreno 650 / Mali-G610 | 8 GB | Android 11+ / compatible Winlator build |
The publisher lists a PC minimum but no recommended tier, so the second PC row is a practical suggestion; Android rows are estimates. A minimum PC may aim for around 30 FPS at 720p, while a recommended machine can easily target the game’s traditional 30 FPS presentation at 1080p if the port behaves. Winlator users might see roughly 25–40 FPS on a Snapdragon 730G-class phone and 30–60 FPS on a Snapdragon 870-class device at 720p, but engine behavior can impose limits unrelated to raw GPU power. These are planning ranges, not measured benchmarks for this file. Lower shadows and resolution first if the campus stutters.

Final Verdict
Bully: Scholarship Edition is memorable because Bullworth has a timetable, social circles, and consequences for wandering after dark. Its combat is simple and its PC port shows age, but Jimmy’s year has more personality than many larger open worlds. The added classes and missions make this edition the fuller version of the school story. PC is the easiest place to handle the old controls; Winlator offers Android players a possible way to revisit the same Windows edition. Give it time to reveal its routines rather than judging it by the first fistfight.
