FIFA 22
FIFA 22 is the year EA rewrote goalkeepers from scratch, and it is also the year PC players were left out of the headline feature. HyperMotion — the machine-learning animation system built from motion capture of entire eleven-a-side matches — shipped only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Stadia. The PC version is the previous-generation build, as it was in FIFA 21. What PC does get is the new goalkeeper system, rebuilt ball physics and a proper create-a-club option in Career mode, all of which matter. At 50 GB on DirectX 12 it asks for a capable desktop or a flagship Android device through Winlator.
Create a Club, and What PC Actually Received
Career mode’s addition this year is Create a Club: you found a new team, choose its name, kit, badge, stadium and colours, set its financial starting point, and insert it into a real league in place of an existing side. From there it plays as a normal manager career, with the board judging you against expectations you helped define. It is the closest the series has come to letting you build something from nothing, and it is the best reason to install this entry over FIFA 21.
It is important to be clear about the split, because EA’s marketing was not. HyperMotion is absent on PC. The animation system here is the same one from FIFA 21, and anyone expecting the motion quality shown in the trailers will not find it in this build. Ultimate Team continued with the same pack-driven economy, adding Heroes cards, and VOLTA returned with a skill-meter system and new rule sets. The presentation, licensing and broadcast package remain the series’ clearest advantage over anything else in football gaming.
Goalkeepers, Explosive Sprint and Ball Physics
The goalkeeper rewrite is the substantial change and it reaches the PC version fully. EA rebuilt positioning, reach, decision-making and the entire save animation set, and the difference is immediate: keepers hold shots they should hold, push efforts wide instead of into the six-yard box, come for crosses they can actually reach, and adjust their feet before diving. After several years of goalkeepers being the most-complained-about element of FIFA, this is the version that fixed them.
Explosive sprint changed acceleration so players build speed in bursts rather than at a constant rate, which makes the first few yards of a run matter and rewards timing over holding the sprint button. Ball physics were revised again with more accurate spin, deflection and aerial behaviour. Defending received attention too, with better AI positioning and more reliable tackling, producing matches that are noticeably more controlled than FIFA 20 or 21. The criticism is the obvious one: on PC you are buying a last-generation build at full price while the version being advertised runs elsewhere, and outside the goalkeepers the changes are incremental.
What It Feels Like to Play
This plays like the most balanced entry of its era. Goalkeepers behaving sensibly changes how you attack — shooting from distance is no longer a reliable exploit, and working a chance properly matters. Explosive sprint makes counter-attacks feel sharper without letting pure pace dominate. It is still recognisably the FIFA 21 engine underneath, and if you played that one heavily you will feel the familiarity immediately. Create a Club is where the hours go. Through Winlator the requirements and configuration match FIFA 21 closely, DirectX 12 included.
System Requirements and Performance
| Platform | Spec Level | CPU / Processor | GPU / Graphics | RAM | OS / Environment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PC (Desktop) | Minimum | Intel Core i3-6100 / AMD Athlon X4 880K | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / AMD Radeon RX 460 (2 GB) | 8 GB | Windows 10 (64-bit) |
| PC (Desktop) | Recommended | Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT | 8 GB | Windows 10 (64-bit) |
| Android / Winlator | Minimum | Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 / MediaTek Dimensity 9000 | Adreno 730 / Mali-G710 | 8 GB | Android 12+ / Winlator 7.1+ |
| Android / Winlator | Recommended | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 / Dimensity 9300 | Adreno 750 / Immortalis-G720 | 12 GB | Android 14+ / Winlator 7.1+ |
Because the PC build is the last-generation one, requirements stayed modest — a GTX 1050 Ti-class card reaches 60 FPS at 1080p on high. Under Winlator the DirectX 12 requirement is again the awkward part, translating less cleanly than DirectX 11, so use a recent Winlator build with DXVK and Turnip and expect a flagship to hold 40–50 FPS at reduced settings. Crowd quality is the first setting to lower, followed by stadium detail; the new goalkeeper animations cost CPU rather than GPU time, so a device with a weak processor will stutter around the penalty area specifically. Budget around 65 GB free for extraction plus install.
FIFA 22 Video Review
Is It Worth Playing?
FIFA 22 is the entry that finally fixed goalkeepers, and that single change makes it play better than the three releases before it. Create a Club gives Career mode a genuinely new starting point, explosive sprint sharpens attacking play, and the defending is more reliable than FIFA 21’s. What you do not get on PC is HyperMotion — the feature the game was sold on — because that build never came to this platform. Judge it as a refined last-generation football game and it is a good one, well worth running on a capable PC or a flagship Android device through Winlator.
