MineMogul
MineMogul is a physics-based automation game set entirely underground, and it is the first release from NoodleForge, a two-person studio made up of Gvarados and Diomonder. The pitch is easy to grasp — dig into a cave system, mine what you find, and build a factory to process it without ever going back to the surface — but the execution has one twist that separates it from everything else in the genre. The conveyors and machines obey real physics. It launched into Early Access in December 2025 to an overwhelmingly positive reception, and at 671 MB on DirectX 11 it is small and light enough to run on a mid-range PC or an Android phone through Winlator.
Digging In With Nothing
There is no story, only a situation: you arrive at a mine with a pickaxe and no infrastructure, and everything from that point is something you built. The first hour is manual labour. You break rock, carry ore, sell it, and buy your first machine with the proceeds.
What gives the game its shape is how quickly that manual work becomes untenable. Ore worth carrying by hand near the surface is three minutes of walking away once you have dug a proper shaft, so you buy a conveyor. The conveyor needs feeding, which means a drill, which needs power, which means fuel from a deeper part of the mine you have not opened yet. Progression is driven by your own bottlenecks rather than a quest list, and the caves twist enough that routing a belt between two points is a real spatial problem. The structure generates its own goals, which is why sessions run long.
Physics That Actually Break Things
The automation systems are familiar in outline — conveyors, drills, smelters, sorters, power — but they behave differently here because items are physical objects rather than abstract units moving along a line. Overload a belt and ore piles up, spills over the edge and scatters across the floor. Set an incline too steep and material rolls back down. Drop items from a height and they bounce.
This makes designing a production line an engineering problem rather than a throughput calculation. Junctions need thinking about, buffers matter, and a line that works perfectly at low volume can collapse the moment you double the input rate. The results are frequently funny and occasionally disastrous — watching an hour of careful routing bury itself under a mountain of spilled iron is a specific kind of pain. The Early Access status is visible: content thins out in the later game, the balance shifts around between updates, and some machines are clearly placeholders. Performance also degrades once a factory grows large, which is the usual cost of simulating every item individually. NoodleForge has been open about a planned six months to a year in Early Access.
What It Feels Like to Play
This is a game about tinkering, and it suits people who enjoy fixing their own mistakes. Sessions disappear quickly because there is always one more bottleneck to clear, and the underground setting gives it a claustrophobic character that surface-level factory games do not have — your factory is shaped by the cave rather than laid out on open ground. The lighting work sells that well, with genuinely dark tunnels that need lamps before they need machines. It is unfinished and it feels unfinished in places, which is worth knowing before you start. At 671 MB it installs almost instantly on a phone through Winlator, though a large factory is where a mobile chip will start to struggle.

The small install size is misleading, because the load here is CPU-bound rather than graphical. Every item on every belt is a simulated object, so frame rate falls as your factory grows no matter how the visual settings are configured. A small operation runs well past 60 FPS on modest desktop hardware; a mature one with several hundred items in motion will tax a mid-range processor. Under Winlator with DXVK and Turnip, a recent flagship holds 60 FPS through the early and mid game and drops into the 40s once automation scales up. Lowering shadow quality and render distance helps a little, but CPU headroom matters far more than GPU here, and 6 GB devices will struggle with a large save.

Is It Worth Playing?
MineMogul is an unusually confident first game. Making items physical rather than abstract sounds like a small change and turns out to reshape the entire genre around it, forcing you to think about slopes, spills and collisions instead of ratios on a spreadsheet. The underground setting gives it an identity, and the price and install size are both modest. It is genuinely unfinished, though — expect thin late-game content, shifting balance and performance that falls away as your factory grows. For anyone who likes automation games and does not mind building on a moving foundation, it is worth the space on a PC or through Winlator on Android.
